Fridley Public Schools

The results from a recently-released comparison study show that Fridley Public Schools has lower class sizes than most metro-area districts.

The annual study was conducted by BrightWorks, a Minnesota Service Cooperative, and compares class size data from 32 Twin Cities districts. The data in the report, which was voluntarily submitted by area districts, helps Fridley’s leaders to better understand how local class sizes compare to other districts. The data used in the report was collected in Fall 2024, with the report released in February 2025.

The following are some highlights from the report:

  • Elementary – Fridley has the lowest elementary school class sizes among the 32 districts with a class size average of 20.02, which is 3.09 students fewer than the metro average elementary class size of 23.11
  • Middle School – Fridley’s middle school class size average is 27.65 students, which is just under the metro average of 28.07; the highest metro middle school average is 32.69
  • High School – Fridley High School’s class size average is 28.24 students, which is slightly higher than the metro average of 27.88 students; but well under the the highest high school average of 31.26

The report also reviews class sizes by elementary school grade level. The elementary school class averages in Fridley are in the top four lowest among all elementary schools in the 32 reporting districts.

 “Over the past several years and this year, our district has invested in hiring teachers to keep our class sizes as low as possible, with particular emphasis on elementary class sizes,” said Superintendent Brenda Lewis. “We are pleased to see that our investment is paying off and we can showcase our low class sizes as a benefit of enrolling in Fridley Public Schools.”
