“Check in with others to see if they are okay, check in with your friends,” advised Matthew Engelhardt referring to bullying at a Unity Day assembly for Fridley Middle School students on Oct. 24. Unity day is the signature event during National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. Engelhardt continued, “If you see something, say something.”
Students watched two videos addressing bullying before high school students Cecilia Fellner, Ari Petros and Savayah Woodard performed a skit showing students how to stand up for others being bullied. Additionally, FHS student Nathan Gonzalez performed a poem for the students.
Jade Tucker, FMS Equity and Inclusion Specialist, emphasized that middle school is just a short amount of time in one's life. “You can get through middle school,” Tucker concluded. “Or you can come here and enjoy one another, have time to be creative and learn from one another.”
