A PreK teacher helps a student.

Fridley Preschool families gathered together for the annual Preschool International Baccalaureate (IB) Night on Thursday, November 14. Approximately 30-40 families attended the evening event.

Karin Beckstrand, the preschool Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinator, spoke to families about the IB and the Primary Years Programme explaining that the program focuses on whole child learning and creating global citizens through the collection of effective and engaging teaching practices. Beckstrand explained how teachers encourage students to use their natural curiosity, build a sense of agency and show how to take care of themselves.

Additionally, she spoke about the partnerships between the Fridley fire and police departments, Springbrook Nature Center and the Mississippi Library which give students real life experiences in their community.

After Beckstrand spoke, students and families visited their child’s classroom to see where their student spends their day.
