On Friday, March 21, we welcomed the founder of the ZIRAN organization to Fridley High School to speak with our Chinese language students about environmental protection. ZIRAN focuses on helping people understand how to take part in protecting the environment through practical, everyday habits—like recycling correctly, reducing waste, and using energy wisely.
This visit connects directly to our DP curriculum, where students explore the environment in a three-part unit. So far, we’ve looked at current climate issues and the impacts of extreme weather, then explored clean energy and energy-saving solutions. In the next section, students will focus on real-life actions they can take to improve their environment. ZIRAN’s visit came at the perfect time to inspire students as they begin this final part.
Students learned simple ways to shop more sustainably, cut down on waste, and better understand how to sort garbage and recycling. We hope these lessons stick and spark small changes that lead to a better future for all of us.
