Fridley Public Schools
Scholastic Achievement ceremony celebrates Class of 2023

Proud parents and guardians gathered in the District Auditorium to honor and celebrate the academic and athletic achievements of Fridley High School seniors at the annual Scholastic Achievement & Recognition Banquet held Thursday, May 18. This year’s ceremony marked the 65th anniversary of the event and was sponsored by the Fridley Lions Club.

The evening began with a banquet in the school cafeteria, giving families, students and staff the opportunity to enjoy a formal dinner together before filing into the auditorium for the recognition program.

The generous support of the Fridley community was evident throughout the ceremony. Community scholarships awarded to the class of 2023 by the Fridley Schools Foundation, Fridley Alumni Choir and Fridley-Columbia Heights Rotary STRIVE Program totaled $174,400.

“With the rising costs of postsecondary education, scholarships are needed by many of our students to reach their fullest potential,” said Patty Hand, Fridley High School principal, during her opening remarks. “Our community continues to support this rich tradition of giving.”

The hourlong program recognized a broad scope of academic and athletic achievements, including individual award and scholarship recipients, students graduating with honors, STRIVE program scholars and students receiving the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

“Thank you for being the amazing students you are,” Hand said to seniors in attendance. “I couldn’t be more proud.”
