Fridley Public Schools
School Board Appreciation Month Spotlight: Ross Meisner

For Ross Meisner, serving on the Fridley School Board is a natural extension of both his personal values and his family history. “Quality public education is essential for a high-functioning democracy and stable economy,” Ross explained. Coming from a family of educators, he has always been a strong advocate for schools. Coupled with his passion for community, the school board became the ideal place for him to “contribute my energy to make our city just a little bit better.”

Ross believes that Fridley Public Schools plays a vital role in shaping the heart of the community. “Our schools are vital members of our community where people gather, where families grow, and where we live and demonstrate the values we stand for: inclusion, equality, and opportunity,” he said. He is proud of how the district’s International Baccalaureate curriculum encourages students to expand their horizons and embrace a broad, holistic view of the world. Beyond the classroom, Ross recognizes the importance of programs that enrich the lives of all ages, from the arts to athletics, creating meaningful opportunities for connection and growth.

As a board member, Ross has seen firsthand the challenges facing public education. “Public education has been under immense pressure for years – financially and culturally,” he acknowledged. In response, he and his fellow board members have worked to carefully chart the best path forward, always focused on maximizing the benefit to students while ensuring the most responsible use of taxpayer resources. Equally important, Ross emphasizes, has been the board’s commitment to building and supporting a strong administrative team. “That is the linchpin of our high-performing district,” he noted.

Ross’s dedication reflects his deep belief in the power of education—not just as a tool for individual success, but as the foundation for a thriving community and a better future.
