WE WELCOME ALL STUDENTS!
Starting a new school district can bring up a lot of questions. Here are the three most important things to know right away:
- Can my child attend Fridley Public Schools?
Yes! We welcome all students! You do not have to live in our district boundaries to attend our schools. We welcome students from all districts through Minnesota’s Open Enrollment Program. - What if I don’t live in the Fridley School District?
You are still welcome here! However, school district boundaries can be confusing. Even with a “Fridley” mailing address, you might live in a neighboring district.- To check your official district you can use MN Pollfinder too.
- Not sure where your address falls? We are here to help! Reach out to our Enrollment Center at 763-502-5081 or email us at enrollment@isd14.org
- Will my child get a bus to school?
Bus eligibility depends on your home address. Many students living outside our district boundaries are still able to get a bus. Because transportation is based on where you live, we recommend contacting our Transportation Department to find out your options.- Phone: 763-502-5151
- Email: transporation@isd14.org
Step 1: Gather Required Documents
Please have these items ready to upload online or bring with you:
For All Families:
- Fridley School District Residents: Proof of Address (such as a lease, utility bill, or updated ID)
- Families Living Outside the Fridley School District: You will need to complete an Open Enrollment Form. You can easily fill this out right inside our online application
For Specific Grades & Situations:
- VPK Preschool and Kindergarten
- Proof of Age (a copy of the student’s birth certificate or passport)
- Immunization records
- Early Childhood Screening (required by law)
If your child hasn’t already been screened please register and complete a screening. Learn more about screening.
- Grades 1–12
- We will request records (like grades and attendance) from your child's previous school to help them transition smoothly.
- Special Services
We will request a copy of your child’s IEP or 504 plan. If you have a current copy, please share it during enrollment so we can have the right support ready on day one!
STEP 2: How to enroll
All enrollment is completed online.
- Enroll from Home: Access our [Secure Portal Here] to complete the online application.
- Enroll in Person: Visit us at the Fridley Community Center, 6085 7th Street NE, Fridley, MN 55432 (Door 5).
Need an Interpreter? Please contact us in advance. We will schedule a time that works for your family and make sure an interpreter is available to help you.
STep 3: After you submit
- Elementary (K–4): Students typically start within 2 to 3 business days. We will call you to confirm your child's start date.
- Secondary (5–12): We will request records from your previous school. Once we receive them, we will contact you to schedule a meeting and set a start date.
bus transportation:
Bus eligibility depends on where you live. Most families fall into one of these three categories:
- Fridley School District Residents: Bus service depends on your home address and district safety rules. A bus may not be provided if you live very close to the school and can walk safely.
- NWSISD Residents: If you live in one of our seven partner districts (Anoka-Hennepin, Brooklyn Center, Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose, Elk River, Osseo, or Rockford), a bus is available based on your home address. This does not include busing to or from a child care address.
- All Other Non-Residents: Families from other areas (like Columbia Heights, Spring Lake Park, or Minneapolis) may still be eligible for a bus. Please contact our Transportation Department to see if we can create a route for you. We want to help you join our schools!
Special Requests and Child Care
If you have a special situation, like needing your child to be picked up or dropped off at a child care provider, you must submit a request. Please visit our Transportation Page to fill out the Transportation Request Form.
