Thank you for Getting Your Paws Moving, Fridley!

The Fridley Schools Foundation held its 5th annual "Get Your Paws Moving" Walk Fundraiser on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the Fridley Football Stadium. Over $2,500 was donated to benefit students and staff members at Fridley Public Schools through educator innovation grants, student scholarships, and other school and district initiatives.

This year, the Foundation gave a pair of printed Fridley Schools Foundation socks to each participant who donated. Additionally, each donor contributed to another pair of socks which will be given to a local charity.

According to Foundation Walk Chair Karin Beckstrand, the idea of donating socks came from the desire to help others in the surrounding community.

“Since the money we raise directly benefits our students, we also wanted to contribute to the community outside of our schools,” said Beckstrand. “As socks are one of the most requested items at shelters, we decided this would be a great way to help community members in need. We did our research with our vendor, and we are contributing 100 pairs of socks to a local shelter.”

In addition to staff and community support at the walk, students also showed their Fridley pride. Fridley High School students in the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) class volunteered at the event to ensure participant safety. Students who are part of the district's 4-Star Parent Aware before- and after-school childcare program, Fridley Tiger Club, also enjoyed some outdoor fun by participating in the event.

Beckstrand said she is appreciative of the unwavering support from the entire Fridley Schools community.

“I cannot thank the Fridley community, employees and families enough for supporting the walk, year after year,” said Beckstrand. “Fridley is a special district with a huge heart and that is evident every year through the support we receive.”
