SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS & SAFETY AND SECURITY SPECIALISTS
This information describes the roles of School Resource Officers (SROs) and Safety and Security Specialists, including their shared responsibilities and key areas of distinction.
Employed by the Fridley Police Department; contracted with Fridley Public Schools.
Enforce criminal statutes and sanctions.
Authorized to use force and make arrests.
Maintain knowledge of Standard Response Protocols and support the district in their use.
Maintain a passive, observational presence while school staff intervene during a student crisis or physical altercation; intervene per Minnesota Statute when requested by school staff or when imminent danger exists.
Provide contracted security services to the district for large-scale events. To include sporting events, prom, and graduation.
Provide legal expertise and guidance on matters related to safety and security when requested.
