Fridley Public Schools welcomed back students in several grade levels on February 1, 2021. We are looking forward to welcoming more students, across all grade levels, back on February 16! Preschool and Elementary students will also be returning to a full five days per week schedule. Below is a reminder of the phased-in transition timeline:
• February 15: NO SCHOOL - Presidents' Day • February 16: *PreK, Kindergarten, and Grade 1-4 will begin 5 days per week, in-person learning (M-F) *Fridley Middle School Grade 5 and 6 will continue in Hybrid schedule *Fridley Moore Lake Area Learning Center students will return to half days in-person learning (M-F) *Fridley High School Grade 9, 10, 11, and 12 will return to Hybrid schedule
*All Hybrid students at the middle and high school will be distance learning on Wednesdays*
REMEMBER: All distance learning students who selected Fridley Online Academy for Semester 2 will NOT be affected by these changes. Fostering district-wide unity, members of the Fridley High School (FHS) Minnesota Honor Society (MHS) made the most of an opportunity to connect with their younger peers by creating virtual 'read aloud' videos for Fridley's Hayes Elementary School students to enjoy.
FHS senior Kimberly Escobar Cabanzo, and juniors Vanessa Lor and Sophie Pehl worked with Hayes staff to create the videos. Each student selected a book to read and also shared words of advice with the elementary students. The high schoolers discussed their love for reading and encouraged the younger scholars to attend the upcoming February 25 drive-through Hayes Family Literacy Night event. Students will be watching the read alouds during the week of Feb. 8 in their Tower Talk morning meeting, which serves as the weekly communication to all Hayes students. Click to read more... Congratulations to Fridley Area Learning Center (ALC) students who were recognized and honored during the school's annual Celebration of Excellence. Held virtually on February 8, the event recognizes the hard work and accomplishments of the school's students, as well as its 2021 graduating seniors. The celebration also honors student progress that has been made throughout the year. The awards given to students include academic excellence, most improved, and the 3D Award (Desire, Determination, and Discipline). "The Celebration of Excellence gives us the opportunity to recognize graduates who have finished their schooling outside the "norm," and also allows us to recognize students who are going above and beyond in and out of the classroom," said science teacher Nicole Moussette. Addressing students in his welcoming message, Principal of Alternative Services Dr. Jason Bodey said he was looking forward to seeing students back at the school building. He acknowledged that the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent school closings has caused many challenges for both students and schools. Click to read more... The Fridley Youth In Government (YIG) delegation continued the more than 30-year tradition of attending the Model Assembly from January 7-10, 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the state-wide event was held virtually in Minnesota. The YIG Model Assembly program is a student-led, realistic and complex simulation of state government for 8-12th grade students.
At Model Assembly, students have the unique opportunity to serve as legislators, judges, attorneys, cabinet members, and media representatives. This engaging learning style allows students to develop civic responsibility, strengthen public speaking skills, listen to delegates with different experiences, debate issues, and be involved in decision-making processes. The district's Equity and Inclusion department, in partnership with the Get Ready college and career readiness program, developed activities and resources for Fridley students and families. Each school's website features content that highlights and honors many aspects of Black History, and includes student participants, story time read alouds from Fridley administrators, Key Note Speaker Dr. Jesse Mason, plus much more! Congratulations to Fridley Public Schools' January Employee of the Month, Elizabeth (Beth) Guarneri! Guarneri has served as the Kitchen Manager at Fridley Middle School for five years.

According to Director of Nutritional Services Renee Arbogast, Guarneri has played a key role in the success of students receiving meals throughout the pandemic. Beginning on February 16, Fridley Public Schools Grade 5-12 students are returning to in-person learning. See the graphic below for the updated schedule:
