We made it! The 2020-21 school year ended yesterday, and we commend all our students, staff and families for navigating this challenging school year with patience and resilience. Fridley is a strong and supportive community, and we are grateful and proud of the collaborative work that helped support our students and families throughout this school year.
This final Did You Know? e-newsletter of the school year celebrates the achievements of Fridley students across all our International Baccalaureate (IB) World Schools. Our Fridley High School Class of 2021 graduates are successfully prepared to embark on new beginnings, while our 4-year-old Preschool IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) scholars are well prepared to start Kindergarten next fall. The end of a school year is a time to reflect on all the hard work, achievements and memories made. Congratulations to all our students - we applaud you for your efforts and accomplishments!
Enjoy a long-awaited and safe summer vacation, and we look forward to welcoming you back to school in the fall! Fridley Public Schools The 63rd FHS Commencement Ceremony honored 206 graduates at Bob O'Neill Field on June 3 For the Fridley High School (FHS) Class of 2021, the 63rd Commencement Ceremony marked a momentous milestone of resiliency, determination and grit. A total of 206 graduates received their high school diplomas at Bob O'Neill Field on June 3, 2021, celebrating the end of a challenging school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The graduation ceremony was the first time that all members of the Class of 2021 were fully reunited, as schools across the world transitioned to distance learning in March 2020. Through the past year, some seniors navigated changes from hybrid to distance learning, while others completed their senior year through Fridley Online Academy. The commencement ceremony highlighted the unmatched tenacity that seniors exhibited through their final year of high school education. The school received its IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) authorization in December 2020, and is the first and only preschool program in the State of Minnesota to offer the IB PYP to 3- and 4-year-old young learners. The ceremony honored 113 members of the future Class of 2034, who all sported graduation caps and presented a song and dance for families to enjoy. Teachers, staff, and families beamed with pride as their Kindergarten-ready graduates received their diplomas. "All our students brought smiles, laughter and joy to our Preschool, and we are excited for them to continue to grow and thrive as they enter Kindergarten," said Preschool IB PYP Coordinator Karin Beckstrand. "This school year, not only have students advanced their academic skills, our young learners have grown their social and emotional skills as well. We were thrilled to be the starting point of their educational journeys, and we want to thank all our families for their support." Congratulations to the Fridley Public Schools Technology team, who collectively earned the title of June 2021 Employee of the Month! Throughout the school year, the Technology team has worked tirelessly to ensure that students have access to 1:1 Chromebooks, staff are equipped with educational tools, all technological systems are consistently working properly and effectively, plus many more behind-the-scenes tasks that are essential for school and student success.
