It has been great welcoming all students back into our buildings again! We hope our families are having an excellent start to the second semester. Celebrated across the nation, February is Black History Month - an important time to recognize and celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Americans. Black History Month is an opportunity to connect, highlight, and educate our community of the African American experience, historically and present. All month long, Fridley Public Schools are celebrating Black History Month through classroom activities, artwork, lessons, and much more. On February 23, 2022, all students will have the opportunity to watch the districtwide Black History Month |

showcase that will be held in the District Auditorium and live streamed to classrooms. The showcase will feature students performing poetry, spoken word, a play, and songs. As a district, we collectively celebrate and acknowledge the importance of this month, in February and all year long. We are proud to continue to provide and build upon a strong, positive school culture and climate where all students thrive. |

Fridley YIG student writes bill that continues to gain momentum A breakaway star emerged from the 2022 Youth in Government (YIG) Legislative Session at the State Capitol held January 6 through January 9, 2022. Mike LeRoy, a sophomore at Fridley High School (FHS), had a bill he wrote unanimously passed by his colleagues from committee through the House and Senate floor, and signed into Minnesota YIG law by Lieutenant Governor Anneteke Adoga. Fridley students attend Youth in Government Model Assembly Fridley's future decision makers had the opportunity to collaborate with peers from across the state at the annual Youth in Government (YIG) Conference, held January 6 through January 9, 2022. The student-led conference marked a return to in-person events, following a virtual conference in 2021. Sessions were held at both the Hilton Minneapolis and the State Capitol. Read more |

ALC students recognized at annual Celebration of Excellence Congratulations to Fridley Moore Lake Area Learning Center (ALC) students who were honored at the school's annual Celebration of Excellence! Fridley High School students to participate in Augsburg Honor Band Congratulations to Fridley High School Band students Ethan Andler, Ethan Canseco-Voigt, Mya Karsten, Onni Kisner, and Hannah Hoogheem who earned an opportunity to participate in the Augsburg University 9th and 10th Grade Honor Band! Students will enjoy a day-long workshop with rehearsals and master classes - then perform a concert on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Augsburg University. Read more |

Sugar the Therapy Dog educates students on her calming ways Stevenson and Hayes Elementary School students have been enjoying visits from a special hero through the school year. Anoka County's own Sugar the Therapy Dog has been stopping by classrooms to greet students and demonstrate the work she does during crisis situations. During a Stevenson classroom visit in January, Sugar greeted students with her quiet demeanor and love for pets and snuggles. As the first Community Support K9 in the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, Sugar and her human, Holly Schultz, educated students on her duties. Read more |

February Employee of the Month: Nadine Teff Congratulations to February Employee of the Month, Nadine Teff, who serves as the Cook Manager at Hayes Elementary School. Teff has worked at Fridley Public Schools for 11 years, first serving as Cook Manager at Stevenson Elementary School, then shifting to Hayes Elementary, where she's served for the past three years. "Nadine is passionate about serving her community and students," said Director of Nutritional Services Renee Arbogast. "She works with her team to provide made-from-scratch, nutritious meals to our scholars daily." According to Arbogast, Teff takes great pride in her work and the quality of service provided to all students. Read more |

| P-EBT Update - Families impacted by COVID-19- related absences are eligible The Minnesota Department of Human Services has been approved to distribute P-EBT money for students who have been impacted by COVID related absences. P-EBT will be different than what was distributed last year. To be eligible for these benefits, you must have been approved for Free or Reduced Priced meals for the 2021-22 school year. Benefits are NOT retroactive, so if you have not completed your 2021-22 Application for Educational Benefits, please complete this now through the Campus Parent Portal or obtain a paper copy from your school's main office. | Fridley Preschool Registration Night - Feb. 22 Attend Fridley Preschool Registration Night to learn more about our 3- and 4-year-old International Baccalaureate World School Preschool. | 5th Grade Parent Information Night - Feb. 23 All current 4th grade families are invited to attend the Fridley Middle School 5th Grade Parent Information Night on Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Fridley Community Center. This event will feature information on your student's transition to FMS, 5th grade structure, IB MYP and much more. Parents will also hear from current students, parents and teachers about their middle school experience!

| Kindergarten Round Up Nights - March 1, 7 and 8 Is your child ready for kindergarten in the 2022-23 school year? Fridley Public Schools Kindergarten Round Up Nights will be held on March 1, 7, and 8.
