Hayes Carnival is a huge hit with families
Hayes Elementary School was packed with joyful students, families, staff and community members who attended their annual carnival on May 11. The event was held both inside and outside in order to host a variety of activities and games, entertainment and food trucks. Jack the Giraffe and his friends Batman and Free-Da the clown were there to pose for pictures and a basket raffle helped to raise money for the school and scholars. It was a fun-filled event for all! |

| Science rocks at Fridley Middle School's 6th grade science fair Fridley Middle School 6th grade students participated in a science fair in the cafeteria on May 11. Students created websites, dioramas, videos and brochures about a variety of earth science processes. Students, staff and families were able to walk around to interact with the projects and demonstrations were held by selected students to show how volcanoes erupt, tsunamis are formed and more. It was an educational experience for everyone! |

Lions Club donates funds to purchase scoreboard for Fridley baseball team Members of the Fridley Lions Club attended the Fridley vs Columbia Heights baseball game on May 15 to dedicate a new electronic scoreboard that they helped purchase. The Fridley Lions Club has generously supported the Fridley school community for years and the assistance they provided to purchase the new scoreboard shows their commitment to improving the community. Stevenson Carnival is a slam dunk for the community Excitement was in the air at the annual Stevenson Elementary Carnival on May 19, where the community came together to support the school and have fun while doing it! There were a variety of games and activities that students and families enjoyed, as well as food trucks and cotton candy. The dunk tank was a huge success as students enjoyed trying to dunk their teachers and staff members. Additionally, a silent auction and basket raffle helped to raise funds for the school. It was a fun evening that was enjoyed by all! |

| Athena Award Winner 2023: Amayramy Ruiz Barrios Congratulations to Fridley High School (FHS) senior Amayramy Ruiz Barrios who is the 2023 FHS recipient of the Athena Award. Each year, the Athena Award is presented to an outstanding female student athlete at 100 Twin Cities metro area private and public high schools. Ruiz Barrios is a four-sport athlete in cross country, dance, track and field, and soccer, and has received 16 varsity letters for her participation. She has also received six conference awards in those four sports. "It has been great to experience different teammates and different mental and physical challenges," said Ruiz Barrios about her time playing each of the four sports. "Sports teach you how to be mentally strong. You need to communicate with your teammates and learn collaboration, and how to be able to depend on one another." Read more |

| Fridley High School juniors earn 2023 Harvard and Yale Book Awards Congratulations to Fridley High School (FHS) juniors Palak Bhakta and Deodatus Gbadoe who earned the Harvard Book Award and Yale Book Award, respectively. Recipients of these awards must be outstanding students in the junior class who display excellence in scholarship and high character, combined with achievement in other fields. Read more |

| Fridley Public Schools will be closed on Monday, May 29 in observance of Memorial Day Memorial Day is a holiday observed in the United States to honor and remember those who have died while serving in the U.S. military. It is a day of remembrance and reflection for the sacrifices made by those who lost their lives in defense of their country. The origins of Memorial Day can be traced back to the American Civil War. During and following the war, communities across the country began holding ceremonies and decorating the graves of fallen soldiers as a way to pay tribute to their sacrifice. This practice eventually led to the establishment of a national observance. Read more |
