Students at Fridley High School and Fridley Middle School received new Chromebooks this week, thanks to a federal grant awarded to the Fridley Public Schools Technology Department.

Congratulations to Andrew Spreeman, our March Employee of the Month, who works as a classroom assistant at Fridley Preschool.

The Fridley High School Culture Day committee hosted their annual Culture Show in the District Auditorium during lunch on Thursday, March 2. The program celebrated the school’s diverse population through performances of cultural dances and a fashion show that showcased traditional dress.

Fridley Public Schools culminated its monthlong celebration of Black History Month in February with an assembly broadcast live throughout the district on Tuesday, February 28. The program, held in the District Auditorium at Fridley High School (FHS), honored Black culture through song, dance, poetry, and more. February has been nationally recognized as Black History Month since 1976.

On Wednesday evening, the Osseo Area Schools Board of Education announced they were entering contract negotiations with Dr. Kim Hiel as their choice for the Osseo Area district’s next superintendent. Hiel has led Fridley Public Schools since 2018. 

At the start of the school year, Fridley Public Schools embarked on a strategic planning process to identify key focus areas for the district’s future. Our planning partner, CESO Communications, facilitated a comprehensive stakeholder engagement process — including students, staff, parents/families and community members — in September and October 2022. A report of the findings of those engagements can be found on the district website, along with information about our strategic planning process.

Eighth grade students presented their historical research projects at the History Day showcase at Fridley Middle School (FMS) on Thursday, February 16. 

The Chinese program at Fridley High School invited professional teachers of traditional Chinese instruments to speak to students on February 16. Students taking Chinese 3 are currently learning about daily routine and school life, including classes, after school activities and hobbies. A cultural project included in this level is to learn about Chinese traditional instruments and compare and contrast them with Western instruments.

Congratulations to Fridley Moore Lake Area Learning Center (ALC) students who were honored at the school’s annual Celebration of Excellence! The ceremony was held twice to honor both morning and afternoon students at the ALC on February 15. Award winners were recognized by teachers and staff, as students celebrated alongside their families.
